- What are significant figures?
- Digits that carry meaning for precision: leading zeros don't count; trailing zeros after decimal do; zeros between digits count.
- How are trailing zeros handled?
- Trailing zeros after a decimal point count (e.g. 1.20 has 3 sig figs). Trailing zeros in an integer may be ambiguous (120 could be 2 or 3).
- What about scientific notation?
- All digits in the coefficient are significant (e.g. 1.23×10² has 3 sig figs).
